Yes, sponsors must sign an undertaking to provide for the sponsored person’s essential needs, ensuring they do not rely on public welfare.

Processing times vary based on the visa office and family member type.

Submit a withdrawal request via IRCC web form with details like your name, application type, and reason. Withdrawal is not possible if PR is granted before the request is processed.

Only Canadian citizens can sponsor from abroad if they show intent to return to Canada when the family member becomes a PR.

Yes, same-sex partners can be sponsored if all eligibility criteria are met.

Sponsors must provide food, clothing, shelter, and health needs not covered by public health services if the sponsored person cannot provide for themselves.

You can appeal to the Immigration Appeal Division (IAD) within 30 days of refusal.

  • Full refund: If IRCC hasn’t started your application.
  • Partial refund: If processing has started but PR isn’t processed.
  • No refund: If PR application is processed or refused.
  • Spouses/partners: 3 years.
  • Parents/grandparents/relatives: Up to 20 years, depending on the province.
