Nova Scotia PNP and Express Entry in 2026: What Changed and How the New Streams Work

If you searched for “Nova Scotia Demand: Express Entry” in 2026, you may have found conflicting information. That is because Nova Scotia rebuilt its nominee program this year. On February 18, 2026, the Nova Scotia Nominee Program (NSNP) consolidated its pathways into four streams, retiring several familiar names in the process.
This guide explains the new structure, how the current Nova Scotia: Express Entry stream works, who each stream serves, and how to position yourself for a Nova Scotia nomination in 2026.
Quick Summary
Since February 18, 2026, Nova Scotia has four nominee streams: Skilled Worker, Nova Scotia: Express Entry, Entrepreneur and Nova Scotia Graduate. The Nova Scotia: Express Entry stream combines the former Nova Scotia Experience: Express Entry and Labour Market Priorities streams and targets Express Entry candidates with Nova Scotia work experience. Nova Scotia said eligibility criteria stayed the same, and applications submitted before the change were not affected.
What Changed in February 2026?
Nova Scotia consolidated its program to make it simpler for applicants and employers. The province said eligibility criteria remain the same; the change reorganized existing pathways into four streams. Its application portal closed briefly from February 13 to 18, 2026, while the province modernized its systems.
| Former stream or pilot | Where it fits now |
|---|---|
| Nova Scotia Experience: Express Entry | Nova Scotia: Express Entry |
| Labour Market Priorities | Nova Scotia: Express Entry |
| Critical Construction Worker Pilot | Skilled Worker (construction sub-criteria) |
| Labour Market Priorities for Physicians | Skilled Worker (physician sub-criteria) |
| Occupations in Demand | Retired as a separate stream |
| International Graduates in Demand | Nova Scotia Graduate |
| International Graduate Entrepreneur | Entrepreneur (international graduate sub-criteria) |
The former “Nova Scotia Demand: Express Entry” stream is not one of the four current streams. Candidates who relied on older guides should review the current structure before planning their application.
The Four NSNP Streams in 2026
1. Skilled Worker
For candidates with a job offer from a Nova Scotia employer, including sub-criteria for construction workers and physicians. Priority sectors include health care, construction and manufacturing. This stream is not linked to Express Entry.
2. Nova Scotia: Express Entry
For candidates in the federal Express Entry pool with Nova Scotia work experience. A key requirement is one year of Nova Scotia work experience in a TEER 0, 1, 2 or 3 occupation. Nova Scotia can also select candidates whose profiles match its labour market priorities. A nomination adds 600 points to your Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score.
3. Entrepreneur
For experienced business owners and international graduates who want to start or buy and operate a business in Nova Scotia. Candidates must meet net worth, investment and business requirements.
4. Nova Scotia Graduate
For recent graduates of Nova Scotia institutions, including those in health care fields, with a full-time job offer related to their field of study.
How the Nova Scotia: Express Entry Stream Works
Step 1: Create a federal Express Entry profile
You must qualify for the Federal Skilled Worker, Canadian Experience Class or Federal Skilled Trades program and have an active profile.
Step 2: Build Nova Scotia work experience
The stream values candidates already contributing in the province, particularly those with one year of skilled Nova Scotia experience.
Step 3: Express interest and watch for selection
Depending on the pathway, Nova Scotia may invite candidates who express interest or select candidates directly from the Express Entry pool based on its labour market priorities.
Step 4: Apply to Nova Scotia
If selected, submit a complete application to the NSNP within the deadline.
Step 5: Accept the nomination and apply to IRCC
Accept your nomination in your Express Entry profile to receive 600 CRS points, then submit your permanent residence application after an invitation to apply.
